Was Jesus A Liar?

Was Jesus a liar?
He made some outrageous claims during his ministry preaching and teaching.
In John 14:1-12, Jesus says these things, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, trust also in me. In Father’s house are many rooms (“mansions” in the KJV); if it were not so I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me  that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”

Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really knew me you would know my Father as well. From now on you know Him and have seen Him.”

Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”

Jesus answered, “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a ling time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Don’t you believe that I am the Father and the Father is in me? The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather it is the Father living in me who is doing His work. Believe me when I say I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves.”

W H O A!  Talk about an uproar! Talk about some arrogant, blasphemous claims. 

When His disciples heard Jesus tell them He and God were one in the same, they became confused and agitated.  When the Sadducees and Pharisees heard Him call himself God they were furious and plotted to kill him. When people heard him say He was God and God was in Him some of them walked away and refused to believe Him. And some people didn’t know what to believe.

In Philippians Paul teaches, “Therefore God exalted him (Jesus) to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is__________.” NIV.

How would you fill in that blank? When you read what Jesus called himself in John 14 one of three things is true:

• He is the Lord and He was telling the truth.
• He was a liar and deceived the people he taught with lies about his identity.
• He was a lunatic, out of his mind, and didn’t know what he was saying

Each one of us, as the Bible says, will have to deal with Jesus whether we believe what Jesus said about himself or not. Each of us has the choice to either:

1. Believe He is Lord
2. Believe He is a liar.
3. Believe He is a lunatic.

All three choices have eternal consequences.
