The Color Of Sheep

Sheep are stupid. Most folks know sheep are totally dependent on their shepherd for everything: eating, de-bugging, herding, drinking, righting, sheering. Without a good shepherd sheep can’t live.

I was wondering this morning when satan looks at sheep, what color does he see?  When God looks at His sheep He only sees two colors, white and black. The white ones He sees are His beloved children: saved and being molded into the image of His Son, being sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

“who through faith are    shielded by God’s power    until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.” I Peter: 1:5

They are white.  Brilliant white, seen as holy and consecrated to God and for God’s glory. God sees us as white through the person of Jesus Christ our precious Lord and Savior, who sits at God’s right hand and makes intercession for us moment by moment so we remain always white. Our color never changes. God will always see us as pure and radiant white reflecting His light and His son.

Then God sees His black sheep. They are the lost ones. The strays. The ones He’s still pursuing a love relationship with. Some of them, God knows will be white some day.  Some He knows will remain black. At some point those black sheep, and the goats, He will cast into the dark abyss, separated from God for eternity and at home with satan.

“I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me—just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.    John 10:14-16

How Satan Sees Sheep

Satan sees sheep as white, black or red. The black ones are his children, his lost souls he claims as his. Those who will reject the gospel and Jesus as their Lord and Savior. The humor of these black sheep is that satan doesn’t know how long, or if, they’ll stay black.  Some of those lost sheep belong to God. God is pursuing them too. And will until Christ comes again and He gathers all His children together in one heavenly flock.

Some of those black sheep satan sees will one day be brilliant white, removed from satan’s grasp forever, but satan doesn’t know which ones they are.  He leaves the black ones alone, because as far as he knows they belong to him. He just keeps heaping lies on them. Having a field day convincing them they have no hope, or that their sinful lifestyle is okay. They believe him, and keep on sinning. It’s a miserable day in hell when satan sees one of those black babies become a brilliant, pure white child of God. Satan keeps roaming among the white sheep lying to them, coaxing them, threatening them, provoking them, discouraging them, taunting they, tempting them, hoping he can change their color from white to black.

Our enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. From 1 Peter 5:8

The ones he pursues with a vengeance are the red ones.  He hates the red ones with every fiber of his nasty self. He prowls around looking to destroy them as well. But red color won’t wash out of  red sheep. The red sheep are the ones covered in the blood of Christ.  They are protected by the power of God until the day of salvation. The blood Jesus shed on the cross for God’s children.

Satan sees red when he sees red sheep, because he knows he can’t have them. Ever. Can he aggravate them? You bet your life he can. Can he make them miserable? We know all too well how. He can induce pain and suffering and sorrow and sin and depression and addiction and discouragement and on and on, but he can’t have us. He can never kill us. He can never change our color.

As red sheep, we are just like Job:

One day the angelscame to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan[b] also came with them. The Lord said to Satan, “Where have you come from?”  Satan answered the Lord, “From roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth on it.”
Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job?  There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.”
“Does Job fear God for nothing?” Satan replied. “Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land. But now stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face.”

The Lord said to Satan, “Very well, then, everything he has is in your power, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.”    Job 1:6-12

As red sheep we are fair game for Satan. But on us, His red sheep, God has commanded Satan, “do not lay a finger.”

Trials will come.

“now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.”  1 Peter 1:6-7

But God protects us. He sees us as we are, pure and holy and white before Him through Christ.

Satan Hates Us

Satan sees us as red. He hates us, and he’ll try till we take our last breath to change us from red to black. But our color will never change.
