Comment Rekindles Gay Marriage Discussion

I received an interesting comment about my post last week on the gay bible. His comment sent me  into God’s word to respond to Him in Truth.

His comment was this: “Then why isn’t it one of the 10 commandments?” I assume he was asking, “Why isn’t homosexuality one of the ‘Thou shalt notbride and groom 10 commandments?”  His comment seemed confrontational to me, but I wanted to reach out to him in love with God’s truth. I try to do that with every reply to comments, negative or positive.

God prompted me to go to Genesis. In Genesis 2 I read,

“But for Adam no suitable helper was found. So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman, for she was taken out of man.”

That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.” Genesis 2:20-24.(NIV)

The King James Version states it: Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

Here was my reply to his comment:

It didn’t have to be in the 10 commandments. God already made provision for marriage between a man and a woman in Genesis 2:24 “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”(KJV) That was Adam(a man) and Eve(a woman).  It could not be more clear and definitive than that.  Nowhere in God’s word does God make provision for any other marital relationship except between a man and a woman.

  1. This gives an excellent example of speaking the truth in love. We need to be clear about what Scripture says about marriage and sodomy. But this is not a battle with the 1 or 2 percent who want to get ‘married.’

More important, we need to be equipped to explain to our Christian neighbors and friends the basics like love. We have lost this battle because a majority now approves of ‘marriage’ for homosexuals. And a big part of that majority is fellow Christians who think love requires it.
Until Christians understand their basics, their is no hope in turning back the tide.

  2. I think you handled this very well and with the truth. I don’t find your response confrontational, but you never know what the reader on the other side of the monitor will think.

    1. Mary,
Thanks for the vote of confidence. I try to reply to all my comments in love and Truth. I have to admit it’s a constant effort for me. I used to be a newspaper reporter and editor and I was paid to be glib and sarcastic at times, to take public officials to task when I disagreed with them. Now, since I’m following Jesus I have to reply every time with words seasoned with grace and love. It’s much better, but I have to make a conscious effort every time to reply that way.
Thank you again for your comments and encouragement.

  3. It’s sad that people challenge the Word of God, without fully knowing and understanding what it says. If you read the 7th and 10th Commandments, they are both commandments against lust and sexual sin.
Specifically in 10 we are commanded: You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”

To Covet is the lust after or desire or be jealous for.

If you read the following Scriptures from the Torah (we call it Old Testament) Leviticus goes even further to expound of sexual sins:

    Leviticus 20
    King James Version (KJV)
20 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

2 Again, thou shalt say to the children of Israel, Whosoever he be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn in Israel, that giveth any of his seed unto Molech; he shall surely be put to death: the people of the land shall stone him with stones.

3 And I will set my face against that man, and will cut him off from among his people; because he hath given of his seed unto Molech, to defile my sanctuary, and to profane my holy name.

4 And if the people of the land do any ways hide their eyes from the man, when he giveth of his seed unto Molech, and kill him not:

5 Then I will set my face against that man, and against his family, and will cut him off, and all that go a whoring after him, to commit whoredom with Molech, from among their people.

6 And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people.

7 Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the Lord your God.

8 And ye shall keep my statutes, and do them: I am the Lord which sanctify you.

9 For every one that curseth his father or his mother shall be surely put to death: he hath cursed his father or his mother; his blood shall be upon him.

10 And the man that committeth adultery with another man’s wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour’s wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

11 And the man that lieth with his father’s wife hath uncovered his father’s nakedness: both of them shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

12 And if a man lie with his daughter in law, both of them shall surely be put to death: they have wrought confusion; their blood shall be upon them.

13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

14 And if a man take a wife and her mother, it is wickedness: they shall be burnt with fire, both he and they; that there be no wickedness among you.

15 And if a man lie with a beast, he shall surely be put to death: and ye shall slay the beast.

16 And if a woman approach unto any beast, and lie down thereto, thou shalt kill the woman, and the beast: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

17 And if a man shall take his sister, his father’s daughter, or his mother’s daughter, and see her nakedness, and she see his nakedness; it is a wicked thing; and they shall be cut off in the sight of their people: he hath uncovered his sister’s nakedness; he shall bear his iniquity.

18 And if a man shall lie with a woman having her sickness, and shall uncover her nakedness; he hath discovered her fountain, and she hath uncovered the fountain of her blood: and both of them shall be cut off from among their people.

19 And thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy mother’s sister, nor of thy father’s sister: for he uncovereth his near kin: they shall bear their iniquity.

20 And if a man shall lie with his uncle’s wife, he hath uncovered his uncle’s nakedness: they shall bear their sin; they shall die childless.

21 And if a man shall take his brother’s wife, it is an unclean thing: he hath uncovered his brother’s nakedness; they shall be childless.

22 Ye shall therefore keep all my statutes, and all my judgments, and do them: that the land, whither I bring you to dwell therein, spue you not out.

23 And ye shall not walk in the manners of the nation, which I cast out before you: for they committed all these things, and therefore I abhorred them.

It’s unfortunate that people don’t want to know or follow the Truth of God’s Word, but want to be validated, by God, for their sinful states.

Let’s pray for God’s Truth to prevail in the lives of men and women, and that they will come to the saving knowledge of God’s Word.

    1. Glenda,
Excellent comments. And perfect, PERFECT scripture to describe why and how God feels the way He does about our human sexuality He opposes, as your scripture and comment so adequately and succinctly point out, God blesses the sanctity of sexual relations between one man and one woman in the marriage relationship. Period. ANY other sexual relationship has dire consequences. The editors of the gay bible collectively dismiss Leviticus as outdated. They say, and I agree, that the laws in Leviticus were for His people at a specific time in their history. BUT, the laws in Leviticus, to me, point to the holiness of our Righteous Almighty God. They were all under law when God gave them Leviticus. But the law was to point them to the love and perfection of God and His character. And eventually to the grace of God in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. They never understood that to my way of thinking. Hence the rebellion and the disobedience that led to their demise in the desert. Wow! What a great post, great scripture, and great comments. Thank you so much for your wisdom and encouragement. God bless you today and every day!

      1. Greetings Bro. Steven!

I have to give all of the glory to God for the wisdom He has placed in me to answer many of the difficult questions and issues that we face in our quest to know God. I pray that all who read this post and comment will prayerfully consider that we are not haters of gays, instead WE LOVE THEM ENOUGH TO SPEAK THE TRUTH.

        Bless you!

      2. Amen, Glenda,
I would feel horrible if anyone reading my posts were to think that I do not like gays.
Like you, I want them, and those who may harbor resentment or bitterness in their hearts towards them to know the truth of God.
Not a watered down or shallow, misguided truth, but THE TRUTH OF GOD. Straight from Him and not from me.
        thank you again.
