Easter sends a clear message to the world that God is always victorious. Seemingly defeated on Friday when Jesus died, the victory cry came on Sunday morning when He was raised from the dead!
The whole message is that Jesus is alive. He lives today.
Years ago England had a crucial battle with France at Waterloo. People in England were waiting for some news of the results of that battle. The news would be brought into the English Chanel by a ship and sent by semaphore to spell out the message to the people on land.
Finally one morning the message was sent. It read W E L L I N G T O N D E F E A T E D. Then a heavy fog came in and that was all the message that the people saw. W E L L I N G T O N D E F E A T E D.
There was a solemn dirge of defeat that covered London. People were in despair. Their hopes were dashed. Wellington had been defeated. They could not even begin to contemplate what their future would be.
After a few hours the fog began to clear and the message was continuing to be sent. W E L L I N G T O N D E F E A T E D, but then they noticed that there were two more words that came across the water. The message read T H E E N E M Y.
The complete message was W E L L I N G T O N D E F E A T E D T H E E N E M Y.
Wild joy – hilarious joy – joy like England had never experienced before broke out when the complete message was seen. There was dancing and rejoicing. The people of England had a future. Wellington had defeated the enemy!
Many people allow foggy thinking, foggy circumstances, and foggy experiences to blot out the complete message. The message is very clear and simple. God has defeated the enemy. Jesus is alive. He lives. No need to live a defeated life. The final score of victory has been posted!
We don’t live in the world of seeming defeat of death on Good Friday or the lonely skepticism of Saturday. We live in the message of Easter morning! The message of the angels will not be stopped by any fog. It will only be misinterpreted by people who fail to get the whole message. Everyone has the right to hear the whole message!
The whole message puts a different perspective on living each day. Already Jesus had taught that we could be released from all of the chains of sin and grief in this life. The unanswerable question had always been death. Now He gave an answer to that. The ultimate victory is that Jesus Christ lives in this world, lives in this life, and promises to live with us throughout all eternity! He is risen!
Read and claim the whole message!
