Walking In “Newness” Of Life

Do we know what newness of life truly means?

I wonder how many folks who claim their salvation in Christ know they can walk in a new way now.

But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound?Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?  Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. Romans 5:20-6:4.

Once we receive the gift of life from Christ, we become new creations. Everything about us, except our physical and external appearance, becomes new (2 Corinthians 5:17). We are no longer bound to our old way of living. As children of God we are completely accepted and all our sins, past, present and future are forgiven.

But once we become a true child of God and an heir to the Family (of God) fortune, the Holy Spirit begins changing us.  The sanctification process begins. Will we continue to sin? Certainly. But does our salvation give us license to keep sinning? Paul says absolutely not! God’s forgiveness transforms our lives. We don’t just have a free pass into heaven. We have a new road to walk, new gifts, new thoughts, new revelations, new beliefs, new desires, new hope, new confidence, new friends, new dreams, new habits, new promises.

The questions for us become: Do we truly believe God has bestowed on us all the blessings, grace, gifts, power and acceptance we will ever need to live the abundant life God promises us? And are we going to walk in our true newness of life?
