SEX!

What was your first thought when you read “Sex“?sex sign

Was it intimacy with your spouse? Probably not.

Was it a soap opera? A “reality” show? A lingerie ad? Maybe you thought of a racy TV scene. Some sweaty hunks in spandex gyrating on an exercise video? A magazine cover on the rack in the super market? A skimpy underwear billboard? Lewd Internet images. It’s everywhere! It’s everywhere!

Whatever your thought, it probably wasn’t about what God, who created sex, said about it in Genesis.

So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it.” 1:27-28.

Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and the wife, and were not ashamed. 2:24-25.

Like other things God created, man has perverted, abused, forsaken and mocked sex. Open your Bible to the ten commandments again. We regard none of them sacred today. We break them all with impunity. Regard breaking them as acceptable. Consider them outdated.

No guilt. No shame. No responsibility. No repentance.

God’s judgment on His people for their disobedience in Joel was a swarm of Locusts that devoured the land. Famine followed. God told them to repent. He promised to repay His people for the years the locusts had eaten. Done.

And to pour out His spirit on all His people. Done.

He also promised “the Day of the Lord.” His judgement on the enemies of His people and the disbelieving. He called that day great (not wonderful but massive) and terrible.

I believe Joel was right. That Day of the Lord may not be far off.

My friend, Edith Pont, a licensed marriage and family therapist, blogs over atedith pont Compassionate Healer, has written an excellent article on her website that addresses our obsession with sex and its ramifications to our mental and emotional health. When you finish this blog, why not read her thoughts she calls Sexual Boomerang. You’ll be blessed and possibly helped if you struggle in this area.

    • It got 85 views Friday. It will probably get some more next week. For some reason some folks don’t look at some posts on the day I publish them, but they wait a day or two. I posted something on homosexuality last spring and got comments for several months.I’m not back up to my pre-sabbatical views. I hope to get back up there soon. I was real consistent with my views last spring before my sabbatical. Now they’re not. So goes the ways of blogging. Some posts I think will be bombs turn out to be viewed a lot. Then some of the ones I think will draw the crowds don”t.

      • Woohoo! I just read the last of my backed up 630 posts! Can’t believe I finally made it to the end.

Yeah, a sabbatical of even a couple of days affects traffic, I’ve discovered. That’s why I reblog on Sunday.

      • Not me. I promised myself I would not post on Saturday or Sunday. Saturday is my first day of worship. First it’s prayer time with men from my church in the morning, then men’s Bible study, then on Saturday afternoon I worship college football. I’m a diehard Alabama fan. Then on Sunday I worship God and chat back and forth with wonderful Godly people like you. :0)

      • On those days I write ahead and schedule them to post at 1 a.m. That’s handy for other blogs I write for, too. Then I don’t have to write/post five on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. 🙂

      • I’ve done that before. I usually, except today for some reason, schedule my posts to publish at 00:30. That gets some of the readers in other times zones way ahead of me.
