“He stripped all the spiritual tyrants in the universe of their sham authority at the Cross and marched them naked through the streets.” Colossians 2:15 The Message
Before Mr. Rogers moved to a holy neighborhood, he addressed the 1992 class of Boston University. When he stood at the podium, the students and parents broke into: “It’s a beautiful day in this neighborhood, A beautiful day for a neighbor, Would you be mine? Could you be mine? It’s a neighborly day in this beautywood, A neighborly day for a beauty, Would you be mine? Could you be mine? I have always wanted to have a neighbor just like you, I’ve always wanted to live in a neighborhood with you. So let’s make the most of this beautiful day, Since we’re together, we might as well say, Would you be mine? Could you be mine? Won’t you be my neighbor? Won’t you please, Won’t you please, Please won’t you be my neighbor? ”
His aim was to be a Broadway composer, but God had him compose a different kind of play. He disarmed fears by loving children .. loving you .. and making you feel special .. loved .. and most importantly liked for who you are.
His armor was a knitted sweater made by his mother. His words were formed out of his life with Jesus .. the same Jesus who longs to form the words of your life. He looked into those graduates faces and told them: “You were made with good stuff.” Jesus will go to any and all lengths for you hear those same words about His Life in you. His life turns your life into “good stuff”. He not only moved into your neighborhood .. He changes you into a neighbor. The real substance of your life is Jesus Christ.
It is His life that makes your life solid. The life that Jesus offers you matters. It matters for your marriage .. your children .. your friends .. and where you work. You can’t substitute what Jesus is for your life. At the Cross, Jesus claimed you with good stuff .. his life. And now you can step into this day to live a life that matters. … it only takes a moment …
” … the substance is Christ … the solid fact is Christ.” Colossians 2:17 The Message/J.B. Phillips Translation
