The captives in Babylon lost their homeland. They were slaves again. They were tired, lonely exiles. God gave Ezekiel a vision for how He would bring Israel back to life and return them to their home.
In a vision Ezekiel found himself in a valley of dry bones, bleached by extended exposure to the atmosphere. God instructed Ezekiel to prophesy that God would bring His people back to life and put meat and skin on their bones and resurrect them.
God tells Ezekiel to prophesy to the people,
“I will bring you back into your own land, I will sprinkle clean water over you; and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you a heart of stone and (I will) give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit in you, and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.” Ezekiel 36:24-27.
The amazing thing about God is He will do the same for us. Notice all the “I will’s“. He’ll do it all for His people.
Are your bones dry today? Do you need new life? A renewed heart? A renewed spirit? If so, be encouraged. Remember the vision God gave Ezekiel in Ezekiel 37:1-14. God is in the business of putting meat and skin back on dry bones, restoring life. What He did for the Israelites, He can do for us.
