What Is A Nanosecond?

I was watching a sporting event recently being played in California, some 2,100 miles away. When the batter hit the ball, the image and sound traveled through a series of cables from the playing field to a broadcast booth outside the stadium.

From the broadcast booth the image and sound of the hit traveled 25,000 miles through the air to a satellite orbiting the earth. From the satellite the image and sound, now bytes of data, traveled 25,000 more miles to a huge dish in downtown Atlanta. From the dish computers modified the bytes of data and sent the image and sound of the hit through another set of cables and amplifiers 20 miles to a little black box on my TV set and flashed the image onto my screen, where I witnessed the hit and heard the crack of the bat as it happened.

That whole journey took about a nanosecond (A nanosecond is a unit of time equal to one/one billionth of a second.) and I was able to view the image and hear the sound.

Do you realize, we can reach the throne room of God faster than that? Pray, speak, petition, praise, worship the Creator of the universe in REAL real time.

Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:16 (NIV)

In fact, God knows we’re coming to His throne room even before we know we want to.
