As kids didn’t we anticipate ripping open presents on Christmas morning? Don’t we still get excited about things that bring us joy? Don’t we feel eager anticipation?
Hebrews says Jesus, for the joy set before Him endured the cross. Was dying on the cross the joy set before Jesus? Was He looking forward to it? I don’t think so. If He endured torturous pain and excruciating agony for you and me. His joy was beyond our imagination.
Jesus knew His work on earth was finished. He knew in three days He would be resurrected from the dead. He equipped his disciples to spread the Gospel around the world. He knew He would be returning to His Father. To me, that was inexpressible joy.
What is the joy set before YOU today! Before ME? Is it our new job? A child’s college graduation? A Summer vacation?
The joy set before Jesus was heavenly. Imperishable. Eternal.
Is the joy set before us earthly or heavenly. Will our joy last an eternity? Or wither away?
“Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.” Colossians 3:2
Think about this verse. Meditate on it today.
For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
 Hebrews 12:2
