A Strong Tower

Our Praise Team sang “Blessed Be The Name Of The Lord” in worship yesterday. It’s my favorite praise song from my Promise Keeper days. The verse proclaims,

The name of the Lord is
a strong tower.
The righteous run into it
and they are saved.

Singing it Sunday reminded me of the week I’ve had and the times I needed some consolation and comfort. Scripture (and this song) reminded me that I have a strong tower I can run into and be safe. All I have to do to get there was utter the name of Jesus. And just keep saying His comforting name. In the tower.

I think about Psalm 84 when David writes, “How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of hosts.  My soul longs, yes, even faints for the courts of the Lord.”

If you’re anything like me, you’ll probably encounter conflict this week. Disappointment, doubt, fear, fatigue, maybe worse.  When I encounter anything like that this week  I’m going to head for my strong tower, or that lovely dwelling place David writes about. Where I’ll be safe.

When you get smacked in the face with life this week, why not run into Jesus’ strong tower. Or head for His dwelling place and get covered by God’s love and comfort.

About Steven Sawyer

God blessed me with the gift of writing. Mom told me I wrote paragraphs in second grade when others were learning to write sentences. I spent more than three decades in professional writing gigs. For the past eight years I've combined my passion for writing with my love for the Lord. He and I write a Christ-centered, family-friendly blog to glorify God Monday-thru Friday at https://stevensawyer.wordpress.com/. My wife and I have four grown children and two precious granddaughters we co-parent with their mom. I'm a Galatians 2:20 disciple of Christ seeking to allow Christ to live His life in me, through me, and as me.
