Worship? Or Service?

golden dalfCan we worship God and serve something or someone else?

We can go to church and sing and pray and worship God. Then we may walk out of church and serve another god.

The God might be work or kids or food, or our house or money. It might even be our service to God (think about it). It might be the receptionist at work, or our hobby.

Today I’m asking myself if I might be worshiping God and serving this blog I write each week.

What or whom the other god is, can we separate our worship from our service? And if we’re honest, and we admit we are serving another god, does that make our God worship hollow? Meaningless? I don’t know.

Tough questions I’m wrestling with this week.

Jesus said,

“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and :money. Matthew 6:24

  1. These are the exact thoughts that have been going through my mind too. I don’t want the things of this earth to become my gods and sometimes it is hard to find a proper balance. On the other hand, writing on my blog helps me to meditate more on the things of the Lord and to have joy in sharing them with others.

    1. Ellen, Thank you so much for your comments and encouragement. I got a comment from another follower who said almost the same things you did. And what you say here, “writing on my blog helps me to meditate more on the things of the Lord and to have joy in sharing them with others.” is exactly the way I feel as I write this blog. You are a blessing and a tremendous affirmation that I’m doing exactly what the Lord wants me to do with this blog. God bless you richly, Ellen.

  2. One way I look at my blog, which may or may not apply to you, is that it makes me think and meditate on the things of God. Because of the blog, I am constantly thinking about God, His Word, and my relationship with Him.

    1. Wow! Patrick, that is one of the rich blessings I receive from doing my blog. I pray and meditate and think about God all day now, wondering what He’s going to give me to write about. And what He gives me I also think about and meditate on. When He gives me a blog topic many times He will lead me to scripture for the blog. Thank you so much for sharing, my friend, we are on the same page with this. What a blessing your comments are to me. God bless.
