God created us for multiplication. We weren’t made to retire or slow down. God created us to be fruitful and multiply. God put a seed in every living thing so that every created thing would multiply.
When you mom’s 32 chromosomes and your dad’s 32 chromosomes hung out together they produced a single cell that became you. That one cell became two, then two became four, then four became eight, then . . .today cells in your body number about 32 trillion.
Scientists tell us that every five seconds about 200,000 cells multiply just to keep us alive. Our bodies shed and grow skin every day. They produce about two million new red blood cells every second. Every ten years our skeletons completely replace themselves.
In fact, if we ever stop multiplying we will die. God’s theology is hard wired into our biology. “Be fruitful and multiply”. That doesn’t mean we’re all supposed to keep having babies. It means we’re supposed to continue multiplying God’s kingdom.
We can “retire” from a job or a career, but God expects us to continue multiplying His kingdom.
Jesus showed us God’s multiplication process with his disciples. His last command to them was, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” Mark 16:15. Jesus was one body. His disciples were 12. How many true followers does Jesus have today? And the number keeps multiplying.
How are we multiplying God’s kingdom today?
