A Secret Of God’s Kingdom

I loved visiting my uncle’s farm growing up. I got to see and do a lot of things you can’t see or do living in town. I milked a cow, picked corn, rode a horse, slopped hogs, rode his tractor, fed chickens, got filthy dirty. What fun!

In Spring his furrowed fields looked black and barren. But when I visited in the Fall his fields were ablaze with acres of perfect corn and bean rows.

After Uncle Darrell planted in Spring, God took over. He watered the seeds, drew nutrients from the soil, then mixed in sun and time. My uncle reaped the harvest. He didn’t know how the seeds grew. All he did was plant them and reap the harvest months later.

Farmers do what they can do. But God must work. And God will work. And in the confidence of that, my uncle could rest secure.

That’s God’s secret for us. As He works in us, He plants seeds He wants to grow. As The Holy Spirit grows our seeds, our lives are transformed. We become more like Him each day. After time, and at just the right time, we recognize our growth. We observe God’s work in us. We do not know how He did what He did. But we know. And we give God all the praise and glory.

This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how Mark 4:26-27.
