Managing Depression

As with any mental illness, professionals have yet to find a cure. The best anyone with a mental illness can hope for is the tools, the medicine and the support to help them manage the disease.

My blogging friend Secret Angel, an abuse survivor, shared this video on her blog post this week, A message to the depressed.

In this video 20-year-old Anna Clendening, sings and plays guitar on America’s God Talent. Her story of rising from the darkness of crippling depression to performing on stage in front of millions of people brought me to tears.

Approximately 1 in 5 adults in the U.S.—43.8 million, or 18.5%—experiences mental illness in a given year, according to the National Alliance of Mental Illness, NAMI.

If you, or someone you know, struggles with depression or suffers from a mental illness encourage them to get help and support at NAMI. http://www.nami.org/
