adoption, God

The joy of adoption

I had the incredible privilege of watching a young couple  who were dear friends experience the miracle of adoption from the day they decided to adopt through the day they brought their beautiful daughter home and began their precious life together as a family. What a blessing to watch that family flourish.

For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to son-ship. Romans 8:14-15

I was born in Shenandoah Iowa to Tom and Alice  Gail Sawyer. They are my natural born father and mother. I had nothing to do with becoming their son. They will always be my birth father and birth mother. I cannot change that. I can change my residence, my name, my occupation, my marital status or my hairstyle. But my identity will always be the natural-born son of Tom and Alice Gail Sawyer

But, then God adopted me

Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

He chose ME

He loved me. He wanted me. He picked me, the scruffy kid standing off by myself. I didn’t think anyone wanted me, or would pick me. But HE did. He adopted me and he calls me His SON. How cool is that? I get to go home with God and live in His house with Him and call Him Father for ever and ever.
