Foot washing was common around the evening meal dinner table in Jesus’ day.
But wait a minute. This is the Creator of the Universe bent over washing the disciples’ feet. This is the Savior the world. The King of kings. The Lord of Lords. Washing feet. Peter said “No.” But Jesus said to Peter, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me. Then Peter answered, “Then, Lord, Simon Peter replied, “not just my feet but my hands and my head as well. “
This account of Jesus washing the disciples’ feet is the only place in all of Scripture when Jesus gives the disciples a personal, visible example of how they are to love and serve each other.
