Where did we come from and When?

Some folks who call themselves Christians don’t know where they came from or WHEN?

A friend I sang in a choir with some years ago told me he knew Jesus did not exist before he was born on Christmas day in Bethlehem. I shared scripture with him to convince him how wrong he was but God’s word didn’t move him at all.

In Ephesians 1 Paul writes, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he (God) chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he[b] predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will.”

In Psalms 139 David writes, “My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.”

If we are ever to know and understand our true identity in Christ, we need to know and believe in our hearts that God created each believer in Christ, and He created each believer before the foundation of the world.

When satan speaks

The thief (satan) comes only to steal and kill and destroy. John 10:10

What does satan say to us and how does it impact us? ( I know his name it’s supposed to start with a capital s, but ask me if I care.)

We all know satan can only speak lies.   He is not capable of telling the truth. One area of our lives he likes to target is our identity in Christ. If  he can get us to doubt who we really are he can call it a good day.

Who are we really?

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.I have identity issues. Ephesians 2:10

You have identity issues. I have identity issues.

In fact we all have issues about who we really are.

Fur instance: Do people accept me for who I am?  Am I good enough? Do I need to make more money? Am I in the right job? Could I be doing better for myself and my family?  Do we get along with others? Do I have strong moral values? Do others get along with us?  Can other people trust us? Do we trust other people?

If we’re honest many times many of us walk around in a cloud of confusion wondering what our true identity really is.

For many of us our identity is born from our self-image– what we think of ourselves.  And what we think of ourselves determines our attitudes and our behavior.  Some self-help books tell us to build a better self-image we need to accept ourselves and love ourselves more.  This is a world view–and patently false

God has other ideas about our true identity. During February we’ll be exploring God’s Word  and his instructions about  our true identity. And it has nothing to do with the world. So keep reading For His Glory (.  Prayerfully we’ll be discovering what our true identity in Christ is and how we can learn to live out of it.

Seeking God Alone

Editor’s Note: As I surfed Christian blogs recently, I discovered Karen Foster’s About page. In a few words she crafted probably the most concise, accurate description of our true identity in Christ I have ever read. Karen is an Auburn, California-based freelance writer and women’s minister. Are you seeking God alone? Or are you stuck in performance oriented, rules-based “good Christian” bondage? Enjoy.
