So, you think God can’t use you.
You think God can’t use you because ________________?
What’s your excuse? You think God doesn’t want you to be 
a part of His plan? You think He doesn’t have something awesome planned for you to do? You think serving Him would be boring and uneventful? You’re just not into serving at church?
Are you simply warming a pew on Sunday? Don’t think you’re equipped for what someone’s asking you to do?
Do you tell yourself somebody else is better at it than I am? I could never do what they want me to do? I’m too (old? fat? skinny? weak? poor? Ill-equipped? busy? tired?) I don’t know enough about the Bible to teach? I’ve got to clean up my act before God would think about using me? I’ve done too many bad things in my life? I’ve been in jail? I’m just not the material God is looking for to do His work?

When it comes to finding out where God is working and joining Him in His work, we can offer some great excuses why we’re not the right person for the job. God chooses the ones He wants to do His will, then offers them the chance to do what He asks or not. Sometimes the people He chooses make absolutely no sense to us at all. For instance:
- Noah was a drunk
- Abraham was too old
- Isaac was a daydreamer
- Leah was ugly
- Ruth was an outcast
- Joseph was abused
- Moses killed a man
- Samson was a womanizer
- Rahab was a prostitute
- Jeremiah and Timothy were too young
- David was an adulterer and a murderer
- Elijah was suicidal
- Jonah ran from God
- Naomi was a widow
- Jacob lied to his father and stole from his brother
- John the Baptist ate bugs
- Peter denied Christ
- The Disciples fell asleep while praying
- Matthew was a thief and a cheat
- Martha was a worry wart
- The Samaritan woman was married and divorced five times and was living with a sixth man
- Zaccheus was too small
- Paul was too religious and persecuted God’s people
Yet, God used all these people, some in small roles, some in great roles, some in public arenas, some in quiet places. If you’re an authentic follower of Jesus, guess what? God already chose you to love Him and serve Him. He will equip you with whatever knowledge or tools you need to complete the tasks He has for you.
Will His will be done if you choose to respond to Him with an excuse rather than a willing heart and spirit? Sure. But you’ll miss out on the blessings He has for you when you choose to honor Him with your service. To find out where He’s at work and join Him in His work. Unless, of course, you’d rather offer Him an excuse rather than your talents, gifts and abilities, which you got from Him anyway.

For His Glory 
Just came home about twenty minutes ago and found this. Funny how I was just having a conversation along this line today. Many believe they know what God wants for them; I do not. I thought I did and had strong heart for it; still do, but every time I get close enough to it something happens and the door slams shut. I am now older, not decrepit merely wiser, and would love to teach bible study. Until that day comes I guess I write blogs and attempt to direct people to Jesus Christ. Maybe I am doing exactly what I am supposed to.
As a side note: A man that is about ten years older than I was my Sunday school teacher when I was a tyke. He, just in the last two years, became an ordained minister. In a recent conversation he told me that he reads my blogs and likes them, but his position demands that he not take sides by agreeing with some and speaking out. I told him that I was fortunate in that I have no one, at this time, telling me what I can and cannot write. Until that day, I will preach the truth, as I see it.

Thanks, remso, for your thoughtful comments. I’m older now too, out of the workforce, living off social security. I love to blog, have some great folks like you following and reading. My whole goal is to help us all believe and live out of our true identity in Christ. That’s my mantra. Keep preaching the truth, brother.
