Kids growing up in the city miss out. Summer might sizzle in the city but there’s nothing better than growing up in small farming towns in the Midwest, especially in summer.
My dear blogging friend, Dawn Gibson over at her blog, It Just Dawned On Me, wrote a poem about it. She calls it, “Summer Memories. She captures the romance of country life and small town summers. Her poem brings back wonderful memories of summers growing up in rural America. Enjoy.
Summertime Memories
Front porches, tree lined streets,
hometown parades, ice cream treats.
Lightning bugs, stars at night,
running barefoot, tea on ice.
Shucking corn, bumblebees
curtains blowing in the breeze.
Lemonade, country roads,
windows down, lawns need mowed.
Just washed linens smell like sun,
staying up late, having fun.
Coke in a bottle, feet in the sand,
old friendships, lots of plans.
Dawn is an excellent writer and writes from the perspective of a wife and mother captured and awed by the wonder and grace of Jesus. Visit Dawn’s blog, It Just Dawned On Me I know you’ll be blessed.
