You’re Not From Around Here Are Ya.

Here in the Deep South, when we meet a Yankee for the first time, as soon as they talk, we say, “You’re not from around here are ya.”  It’s not a question. It’s a statement of fact. We spot aliens the minute they speak. It’s a cultural thing.

We’re not from around here either.

living all over the place. Nomads. No place to call home.

Jesus said He wasn’t from around here either. “Foxes have holes and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head,” He said in Luke 9:58.

Don’t we sometimes get complacent lounging in the midst of our creaturehome comforts? In our houses? Our favorite chair? Or nestled at night beneath clean sheets?

Traveling is awesome. Vacations are nice. But after a trip, aren’t we glad to get home?

Maybe we’re too comfortable. Maybe we feel too “at home” at home.

I need to remember more often that I’m not from around here. I need to remember where my real home is.
