Puppies And Pride

As I was walking past a pet store in the mall a precious puppy put its paws on thepuppy glass and looked me right in the eye. The look in his eyes said, “Please take me home.” Most fibers in my being said, “Go inside, get the puppy and take it home.”  I couldn’t hold the puppy, pet it, cuddle it, or smell puppy breath. I wish I could have done all that with this sweet puppy,

But the glass was between us.

I’m the same way with God sometimes. Are you? He is eager to share His grace and blessings with me. I’ve seen them. I’ve felt them. I’ve enjoyed His blessings and His grace and His love. I know they’re with God and He wants to share them with me.

But, at times I can’t get to them. I miss what God has. Just like the glass that kept me from that adorable puppy, my pride gets stuck between me and God. My pride prevents me from enjoying God’s best for me.

A man’s pride brings him low, but a man of lowly spirit gains honor. Proverbs 29:23

  1. A puppy’s love is genuine and without conditions. That’s why I believe losing a pet often brings greater grief than losing a human with all the relationship baggage attached.

    1. I agree. A few years ago we had to put our dog down who’d been with us for 14 years. He died in my arms. I wept. I did not cry. I wept. Sadder in some ways than when mom and dad died. Thanks for sharing the love of a puppy. You are exactly right. Always good to hear from you, Ronn. Hope you and Rita and your family are all well. Take care and God bless.
